Success means different things to different people. What defines success in life to one person might be completely different than what it is to the next person. And that’s perfectly fine.

But here’s the thing, no matter what people define success as in their life, many of them (if not most) probably have ambitious goals which require work to get accomplish. Are there people who will not need to work too hard to achieve their goals? Absolutely. Some people might just get there with ease due to a variable or variables in their life.

However, if you’re not that person you’re in good company. Many people (a lot of whom ended up being tremendously successful) need to or needed to work hard for success. It’s not always easy and that’s okay. The whole concept of a cheat code for success is not really applicable to everyone.

Ways to be successful

How is it that someone can become tremendously successful? Well, I don’t really have a one-word answer here. Not only that, but even if I gave a one-word answer, it’s not a guarantee. Success is something that is often multifaceted and requires a large amount of commitment and effort.

For this reason, even the list here doesn’t guarantee success. But why should you read through it if that’s the case? Well, because it’s really unlikely that any source out there will provide info that guarantees success. What you should instead be looking for is a basic strategy which you can stick to, build on and adjust when you need to.

So, with that in mind, I want to give you a list of things that can help you be successful.

1. Build knowledge

Knowledge is the foundation for innovative creativity. Building up your knowledge allows you to not only put that knowledge to use as is, but it also gives you the opportunity to form new ideas. New ideas can help you solve problems, develop products and take your success journey to new heights. You might learn something that plants the seeds for a great idea in your head, on which you end up developing a financially rewarding idea.

Always be on the lookout for chances to learn new things. Find novel ways to add knowledge to your mental database. The internet is a great source for educational content. Follow useful accounts on social media. Dedicate time to watching some educational videos, as well. Make a strong effort to learn.

2. Learn new skills

Learn skills that are in demand which you can earn money from. If you plan on starting your success journey in the workforce, new skills could come in very handy. See what available jobs are asking for and search for skills you can actually learn which match jobs that have excellent pay. Put your skills to use as much as you can. Consider taking a step forward by starting a business using your skills.

3. Sleep enough

Go for at least 7.5 hours every night. I know there’s a lot of suggestions out there for people to be waking up at 5 A.M. If you want or need to wake up at 5 A.M. then by all means do so. But there usually isn’t much need to do this. It’s more important to sleep enough and wake up at a time that is useful to you for your schedule. Again, if that’s 5 A.M., okay. But if 5 in the morning isn’t really relevant for you, there’s no need to be doing this. Sleeping when it’s dark (at night) is also preferable to sleeping when there’s light out. So make sure you are getting a good night’s sleep.

If you’re wondering why sleep is on a list of ways to supercharge success it’s because sleeping is a way to maximize mental and physical energy throughout the day. There’s no point in losing sleep to build success but end up being short on energy. Low energy levels can hurt the chances of achieving success quite significantly.

4. Rest enough

Is sleep rest? Yes. But one can also rest without sleeping. Rest is not a free pass to skimp on sleep. There are techniques which can be combined with sleep that can help you recharge. You can try lying in bed, taking breaks, walking around the room or just grabbing a quick snack away from work. These are great forms of rest.

Something else you should be doing is resting on smaller and larger scales. A walk around the room is a form of small scale rest. But make sure to take at least one (should be two) days in the week to rest, as well. Then, every few weeks, take a few extra days to recuperate.

Remember, there’s no point in losing sleep to build success and there’s no point in overworking yourself if this just ends up compromising the quality (and maybe even quantity) of your work.

5. Read

Reading is an excellent way to learn skills. It can also be useful for helping you become a better communicator (whether written or verbal). When you read, you are intaking the writer’s words, style, phrasing and points. All of these together being absorbed by your mind can help you learn great new ways to become more articulate yourself.

Read as much as you can, as often as you can. Try to read longer forms of text like textbooks or even scholarly articles. Make what you read is relevant to daily life. I recommend focusing on non-fiction, but fiction is okay too if you have time. Fiction books might even help you elevate your creativity.

6. Don’t allow obstacles to hold you back

Successful people aren’t all just immune to challenges in life. If you intend to supercharge your success, you should not only be prepared if things go wrong, you should actively expect them to go wrong. Then, build up your resilience so that if/when things don’t go your way you are able to bounce back and keep moving forward.

Success often (if not always) requires a certain degree of resilience. You must be able to handle obstacles with stride. Life may not always be fair but you can’t let that stop you. Take some time in your day to plan and brainstorm ways things can go wrong for you. Then brainstorm solutions to these potential problems. Prevention is the best strategy but always remember it doesn’t guarantee a smooth ride.

Preparedness means you know what to do, but maybe it doesn’t work or you end up presented with a challenge that you didn’t predict. I’m not trying to freak you out. Not at all. The lesson here is that anywhere and at any time things can go wrong. You should prepare for these but having the mental strength to pull through regardless of success or failure is what building resilience is about.

7. Eat right

Sleep and rest aren’t the only two areas of physical health that impact success. Eating a well-balanced diet that assures you get all the vitamins and nutrients you need is also critical. Food has a strong impact on energy levels and physical and mental strength.

To make sure you’re primed for peak performance make sure you eat a proper and diverse diet. Your meals throughout the day and week should incorporate sources of all necessary vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Do some research online as to what you need to be consuming and look into foods that are good sources of these.

8. Plan & schedule

Before and during your success journey assure that you have some idea of what you want it to look like as a whole. First, start off by defining what success would mean to you and then lay out your path to that goal. Remember, there’s not guarantee that your life will follow this path. Diverging is possible and should even be expected. Make sure to account for setbacks in your plan.

Once you have a plan overall it is time to form a schedule that helps you stick to it and stay on track. Your schedule should be for your whole journey, your year, your week and your day. Allocate your time based on determined needs. I.e. if you run a business and work a full time, 9-5 job, you should block off work time and determine when you would dedicate time to your business while also caring for your health and spending time with family or friends.

9. Stay motivated

Let’s get that little push for success. Ask yourself why you want to be successful. Why does it matter? Keep this in the back of your mind and use it as motivation. Remind yourself of the importance of your goals and think of how good it would feel if you achieved your objectives. Write this stuff down on a small piece of paper and keep it near you to motivate you if you need the motivation.

10. Avoid distractions

It’s possible that you may encounter moments when almost anything seems more fun and entertaining than the journey to success. It’s important to remember, though, that your present can have consequences on your future. What might feel better now might not necessarily always be better for your future and your goals. Always repeat this to yourself if ever you find that you’re wasting time on something when you should be doing something else. This might require a little bit of willpower, but it is important to keep yourself completely focused.

This doesn’t mean no laughing, no smiling, no fun. By all means take some time once in a while to enjoy life. But just make sure not to do so at the expense of the things that matter.

11. Do something!

This one should really be obvious. You can have all the great personality traits you want, but they probably won’t do very much for you without putting them to use in the form of action.

To supercharge your potential for success you need to get up and do something towards actually becoming successful. You can go to work. You can work on your own business. If you’re in school, study! Do whatever. Just get things done in some way!

There’s no point in preparing yourself to be successful unless you’re actually going to accomplish something and make the most of it.
