Where are you going with your life?
You need to maintain control over your own life. You need to steer your life in the direction you want it to go. While this does not guarantee things will go your way, you still need to try. The reward can prove worthwhile!
Measure your progress
Where are you taking your own life? Ask yourself this question because the answer will speak volumes about where you are headed and how you’re getting there. If success is the goal, then the pathway to it needs to be audited.
Check-ins on your own progress are important. If you are on a journey towards success or self-betterment, you should know how well (or not well) you’re doing.
You should be checking in on yourself and assessing how far you’ve come. If you’re not satisfied with where you are or where you’re going, the evidence become clear; you need to change your strategy or more strongly energize your current one.
How do you feel?
Where your life is going isn’t just about the tangible and measurable results, but it’s also about how you feel. It’s about your subjective understanding of your circumstances. Understand how you view yourself and your current situation.
If you are happy where you are you can carry on with the same tried and true approaches.
If you are dissatisfied with how your life has been thus far, you need to change it. A check-in is important but it’s not all about numerical results in your life. Sometimes, you need to informally assess how you feel about yourself from a subjective standpoint.
Do not be a victim of chance
Are you guiding and controlling the direction of your life or are you letting life control you?
If you let yourself be controlled, at any point you may find yourself somewhere you don’t want to be. After all, life is controlling you, not you it.
However, if you set your sights on what you want and pursue it, you have the potential to change the direction of your life. You might even find yourself surprised by how much control you truly have.
Even if you only make a little bit of a difference in your life, at least you did something. Even if the output to effort ratio is horrendously skewed against you, do something.
Take as much control over your life as you can. Minimize the variables you leave to chance.
Are you at a crossroads?
Do you have an opportunity to direct your life one place or another? Are you at a point where you can exercise significant control over the trajectory of your life if you simply take ownership and make smart decisions? If so, this is your chance to make the ultimate positive change for your own self-betterment.
If/when you reach a crossroads, you are at the point where you have a massive opportunity. You can go somewhere great if you capitalize on it.
Not every point in your life has to be a crossroad, but there’s a good chance these crossroads will come along often. If you are not at one now, you may find yourself there eventually. If/when you are, make the most of it.
The journey may be difficult
It doesn’t have to be easy and the reality is it may not be. It’s up to you to be resilient, strong and capable.
Don’t wait for the right time— for when things are going well. Make the right time yourself. Turn the present into the right time. If it feels hard and if you find yourself feeling like you’re going uphill, you need to keep pushing.
Every challenge you overcome is one you can leave behind you to focus on the next. Every challenge can prepare you and make you more capable for the next one.
If your journey is difficult, lean into it. You can’t choose how it goes, but what’s important is you keep trying.
Don’t be on auto-pilot
Don’t let old habits or routines dictate the way your life proceeds, unless they have proven useful so far. Otherwise, if a habit or routine has not helped you as much as it can and should, then it must be changed.
If you notice you keep doing something that you think should work but it doesn’t, don’t be stubborn. Be adaptable, not attachable; if something about the way you do things needs to change, change it.
