Supercharge Creativity: How To Start Getting More Creative Ideas

Creativity is a useful life tool in many areas. There are times when people absolutely need to push the limits of their creativity to be able to formulate unique ideas which generate profit, solve problems, create personal or organizational growth and accomplish goals.
Idea formation using creativity can come in very handy in many contexts, so it makes sense to make efforts to be talented in this area. If you’re looking to do just that, good on you. Let’s get to it.
Ways to get more creative ideas
Here are ways to come up with more creative ideas.
1. Let your imagination run wild
Imagination is unique and almost limitless. Letting the imagination run wild gives it a chance to come up with ideas on its own terms. Let your mind wander where it wants and think about anything you’d like. If it needs to be related to a certain topic then by all means try to keep your thoughts on topic. But otherwise, let your imagination go where it does.
One way I recommend doing this is by taking time to just sit back and think. If you want, put on some music in the background. You can also pace around the room or exercise and think. Giving the imagination a chance to run wild can be a great way to find amazing ideas.
2. Don’t try – at least not all the time (many great ideas come naturally)
Surprisingly, one of the best ways to come up with great ideas is by simply not trying to do so. Now, I’m not saying just stop trying to come up with creative ideas completely. Quite the opposite, this technique should be used in combination with other strategies here on this list. But at times it may be best to not even try finding a great idea.
If your efforts haven’t been getting you to the idea you want, take a few moments to walk away from it and do something else. Let yourself get distracted. Some of the most valuable ideas and solutions often end up just coming naturally without the need to overthink or dedicate too much time to them. Take some time to see if anything comes to you naturally and then go back to brainstorming if it doesn’t.
3. Journal
Trying making use of journaling as a way to write out anything that comes to mind. This can be relevant knowledge to the idea you’re looking for or simply any idea (good or bad) that comes to mind. Writing out info can help refresh it in the mind so it can be used to come up with a new creative concept. Then, writing out ideas can help you fine tune them as needed to perfect them. You can also just build off of them to come up with completely new ideas if you don’t like the direction you ended up going in.
Journaling for creativity can be ordered or disordered. You can do ordered journaling by sticking to a topic, writing related things together and starting off with one concept and switching to another gradually. The other option is just journaling in a disordered manner, which entails basically just writing down whatever comes to your mind and adding to or changing it as you wish. Write down any idea that comes to mind.
4. Create mind maps
Mind maps can be incredibly useful for brainstorming. These lay out information in a connected manner so that ideas that have a relation clearly show it. At the center is the main idea and branching out are related subtopics. Information that is already known can be incorporated as well. By writing these out and linking them, the information generally becomes easier to absorb and analyze.
Mind maps encourage the formation of creative ideas. Due to them being inclusive and visual, they decrease the chances that information will be overlooked or forgotten. They might even make brainstorming more fun!

5. Use flow charts
Flow charts are kind of like mind maps but they follow a certain route or routes which ultimately produce an idea. They are a great way to find solutions to problems because of how organized they are.
A flow chart usually begins with a central piece of information, question or problem. This is the starting point. Related information which leads to a solution or idea is added. Usually, the ideas and solutions that come from flow charts are reached by following an order (or flow) of ideas.
If you’re in need of a solution to a problem or any sort of creative idea, start off by writing a problem down and putting a box around it at the top of a page (preferably in the center so that ideas can also go sideways). Then, draw an arrow to the next related idea. Continue working through by connecting related ideas until you reach a solution.
Remember, if you wish to use flow charts and mind maps to get creative ideas, it is important not to use them only for writing down known information. While using them strictly for facts can help with creativity, it’s also important to keep the end goal of getting a unique idea in mind. Avoid just laying out information that’s already known without adding some creativity. If your goal is a unique idea, you should also be applying the information to your scenario and linking creative thoughts as well.
