How To Become A Morning Person

Being a morning person isn’t exactly easy for everyone. For some people who are on the more extreme opposite, even just getting out of bed can be a monumental task.
Mornings can be hard to put up with. You may still be tired after your sleep just ended, your mood may not be in the right place, and your thoughts might not be formulating properly yet.
The start of the day isn’t always easy, but there are some ways that can help with becoming more of a morning person.
Ways to become a morning person
If you want to become a morning person, use these techniques to help you achieve that.
1. Sleep well
No matter what time you plan on waking up, a bare minimum is making sure you slept enough to wake up rested. Not getting enough sleep can cause fatigue regardless of whether someone is a morning person or not.
Always aim to get 8 hours of sleep. Count back 8.5 hours from the time you need to wake up. By that time, you should be in bed.
If you’re the type of person who takes a while to fall asleep, add some extra time. Count back even 9 hours from when you want to wake up. This helps give you that cushioning if you spend too long awake in bed.
You should also be making sure that the quality of your sleep is enough to make you feel well-rested. You need to sleep in a quiet and dark room.
Avoid eating too much before going to sleep. If you get hungry, have a light snack and wait at least half an hour before getting to bed.
Also remember to be consistent with the times you wake up and go to sleep every day.
2. Remind yourself of your goals in the morning
What are you working towards? Why are you working towards it? Why does being on your A-game matter for your goals?
Run through answers to these questions briefly. Remind yourself of the importance of making the most of the day to come.
This helps with motivation not only for the morning but for the whole day after that. This is a great way to start your morning off right.
3. Eat a good breakfast
I’d certainly hope you’re not eating cake for breakfast and expecting yourself to have a high energy day. Breakfast is the first meal of the day and it should be done right.
It needs to take into consideration your health and energy needs.
Start off by drinking a small glass of water to activate the digestive system with something light. Wait a few minutes (perhaps take this time to prepare breakfast) and eat. Incorporate protein, carbs and some fruit.
4. Have a little bit of coffee
A little caffeine in the morning can be a great energy boost for the start of the day. Too much caffeine can cause a crash, so be cautious here.
Getting a little energy from a cup of coffee after breakfast can help energize your morning and the rest of your day. Benefit from the mental alertness and motivation coffee gives and use it to help you achieve something great.
Coffee is a smart way to cheat yourself into becoming a morning person. Just make sure to use it in moderation so it doesn’t end up doing more harm than good.
5. Complete a simple task
Make yourself feel a sense of accomplishment by completing a small task. No matter how small it is, just get it done.
Maybe put away some dishes or get a round of laundry done. Even better if it’s a chore – you can get it out of your way.
This gives you something you can feel proud of.
If you’re tight on time in the morning (i.e. you have to make it to work) opt for an easy task that can be done quickly so you can be where you need to be.
But the sense of accomplishment you can give yourself after completing a task in the morning can stick with you for the rest of the day. This is a great way to lift your mood and can give you motivation to accomplish something bigger.
6. Do some light stretching or movement
Moderate movement in the form of light stretching or gentle exercise is a great way to get the blood flowing. This proper blood flow helps put you in the right physical and mental state to take on the day to come.
As far as the mental benefits go, improved blood flow in the morning can help improve thinking, energy levels and mood. Gentle movement and stretching also helps prime your body’s muscles for movement as the day goes on.
7. Say “let’s get started” and begin your day
This is your official sign to yourself that your morning routine has ended and it is time to get started with the rest of your day. It doesn’t mean the morning itself has technically ended, just your morning routine.
If you’re stressed, let out one gentle sigh to relax yourself first.
Say “let’s get started” to yourself. This phrase is a way to switch yourself from your morning routine mode to your day completion mode.
This is your indicator that it’s time to get focused, stay focused and do something you can be proud of. The time to prepare for the day is over, now it’s time to start the day. It’s time to work on accomplishing your goals.
